See Aboriginal rock art

Kakadu is home to 20,000-year-old rock art, the longest historical record for any group in the world. Art sites in Ubirr, 39 km (24 miles) from the Kakadu township of Jabiru, can be reached via a one-kilometer (0.6-mile) circular walking track. The galleries reveal some of the world’s best examples of traditional X-ray art.

At Ubirr, go for a moderately steep 250-meter (820-foot) climb at the Nadab Lookout, which offers stunning views. Especially at floodplains at sunset. Rock art in Nourlangie is just as impressive.

Kakadu National Park Australia

Visit the ancient ancestral sanctuaries and surviving art sites on the 1.5 km (0.9 mi) Noorlangi Rock Art Walk. The main site of the Anbangbang Gallery features the stories of Dreamtime’s ancestors, including Namarrgon, Lightning Man, who are thought to have survived lightning storms in wet weather.

Take a Journey to Kakadu National Park

At the heart of the Kakadu’s are the dramatic valley lands, rich in rare flora and fauna. Take the Yellow Water Cruise for the ultimate desert experience. From the car park, walk 900 meters (0.6 miles) through the monsoon forest and cliffs to the deep-moving ponds surrounded by magnificent 150-meter (492-foot) high cliffs. With white sandy beaches and cool waters, it is a popular swimming spot.

Twin Falls is a divided battle that descends from the face of the mountain. The best way to see this fall is to take a boat shuttle to the gorge or take a natural flight.

Witness Kakadu’s theatrical change in Seasons

To be grateful for the dramatic seasons you will need to visit the Kakadu more than once. The local Bininj/Mugguy people recognize six seasons. Beginning in the thunderstorm monsoon season between January and March with high-powered waterfalls and bright light from August to October during the hot dry season of Goring.

Check out the bulbong full of paperbarks and waterbirds that bloom in the bingeing season in April. Yegge, from May to June, and Wurrgeng, between June and August, Tourist seasons are great because Kakadu’s enjoys cool temperatures and clear skies.

Go on a road trip to Kakadu National Park
