Between 1890 and 1917, Russia experienced one of the greatest cultural revivals in her history. This book presents essays by Russian critics on the work of Russian writers of the “Silver Age,” including Chekhov, Gorky, Bunin, Remizov, Bely, Blok, Sologub, and Akhmatova, among others. All the essays are written by eyewitness attempting to understand and evaluate the literature of this remarkable period as it was being created.
