Vladimir Nabokov’s translation of Lolita is a rare example of a work translated by the author into his native language. Besides making Lolita, recognized now as a twentieth-century classic, accessible to the Russian reader, the translation is of interest for anyone concerned with the theory and practice of literary translation. Nabokov’s translation of Lermontov’s Hero of Our Time has become the standard English translation, and his translation of Eugene Onengin sparked a debate on the theory of verse in translation. This English-Russian dictionary systematizes and makes readily available the rich material from the 300 pages of the translation of Lolita.
