Product Description

A Documentary History of Russian Thought is the first comprehensive and representative anthology of Russian social, political, legal and historical thought from its formation in the eighteenth centruy to the rise of Russian Marxism in the second half of the nineteenth century.

Designed primarily as a textbook for use in courses in Russian history and intellectual thought, the editors have chosen their selections to explore recurring, perennial themes, such as Russia and the West, reform or revolution, the individual and society. However, the editors have also included less well-known texts that deserve to be made accessible to the English reader, because it is impossible to form a historical perspecitive of the richness, diversity and complexity of Russian intellectual developement without taking them into account.
