Internships
The Overlook Press seeks energetic students and recent graduates to intern across several departments. Interns leave with a letter of recommendation, a stronger resume, and valuable publishing experience. Overlook accepts interns on both a seasonal and rolling basis.

Spring Deadline: 12/1
Summer Deadline: 4/1
Fall Deadline: 8/1

Publicity
The Publicity department seeks a part-time intern to assist with media research, draft PR materials, and contribute to our blog and social media platforms. Other duties include publicity mailings, filing, and other administrative tasks as required. We are seeking current students or recent graduates with demonstrated interest in publishing and media who can dedicate 15-20 hours a week, workable around the candidate's schedule. Candidates should be enthusiastic, highly organized, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office a must; experience in Photoshop, InDesign a plus. This is an unpaid position. College credit is available. Send cover letter and resume to Michael Goldsmith at mgoldsmith@overlookny.com.

Subsidiary Rights and Permissions
The Rights intern will assist the Subsidiary Rights and Permissions Manager in day-to-day tasks and special projects related to author contracts, foreign and domestic subrights, and permissions. Responsibilities will vary, but may include mailing advance reading copies, checking export codes, drafting permissions agreements, and researching Overlook titles for territory violations; the intern will also assist in other Overlook departments as needed. Candidates must be highly organized, with meticulous attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an interest in the legal workings of publishing. Prior office experience is preferred, and familiarity with Microsoft Office is required. Though this is an unpaid position, college credit is available. Send cover letter and resume to Molly O'Laughlin at rights@overlookny.com.

Marketing
The marketing internship is ideal for those who wish to combine an interest in books with an interest in marketing and/or design. The marketing intern will work on marketing materials from sell sheets to temporary tattoos, the Overlook website, reports, and mailings. A knowledge of Photoshop or InDesign and Excel is preferable but not required. Send cover letter and resume to Ross Gerstenblatt at sales@overlookny.com.

Editorial
Editorial interns assist by reading manuscripts, completing reader’s reports, proofreading, researching, and any other editorial or administrative assistance needed. Some duties include assisting the publisher’s assistant, publicity and production as well. Interns usually work two or three days a week from 10-5, but we are flexible with scheduling needs. Strong reading and writing skills are essential. Send resume and short writing sample to Kevin Viani at kviani@overlookny.com.

Production/Design
The Overlook Press is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable intern to assist with tasks in the production/design department. Duties would include image research, setting up cover mechanicals, laying out backads, and helping with corrections to jackets and covers, as well as assisting with in-house layout projects for sales, marketing, and publicity departments as needed. The ideal candidate has previous office experience, is organized and detail oriented, and proficient with Adobe InDesign & Photoshop versions 3 and up, Quark, and Adobe Acrobat. Send cover letter and resume to Paul Sugarman at psugarman@overlookny.com.

E-book Production Internship
The e-book intern plays an important role in the Production department, assisting with all aspects of print-to-epub conversion. Duties include preparing cover files, proofreading e-books, and maintaining schedule spreadsheets. This is a very hands-on internship that overlaps with the production, editorial, and sales departments. Applicants should be organized and very detail-oriented and should possess strong proofreading skills. Proficiency with Excel is a must; familiarity with InDesign, Photoshop, Quark, and Adobe Acrobat preferred. Please send cover letter and resume to Paul Sugarmant at psugarman@overlookny.com.
