The Overlook Press seeks energetic students and recent graduates to intern across several departments. Interns leave with a letter of recommendation, a stronger resume, and valuable publishing experience. We are seeking current students or recent graduates with demonstrated interest in publishing who can dedicate 15-20 hours a week, workable around the candidate's schedule. Candidates should be enthusiastic, highly organized, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Positions are unpaid, with college credit available. Upon completion of an internship, interns leave with a letter of recommendation, a stronger resume, and valuable publishing experience.

Each season the Editorial department seeks a part-time intern to assist by reading manuscripts, completing reader’s reports, proofreading, researching, and performing any other editorial or administrative assistance needed. Some duties may include assisting the publisher’s assistant or other departments. Interns usually work two or three days a week from 10-5, but we are flexible with scheduling needs. Strong reading and writing skills are essential.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office a must. If you are familiar with critical theory or speak another language fluently, please emphasize on either your resume or cover letter, but note these skills are not required to apply.

Send brief cover letter, resume, and one page sample of critical analysis to Chelsea Cutchens at ccutchens@overlookny.com. The critical analysis can be an excerpt from a college essay, an article written for pay or leisure, or any such writing, but must show your aptitude for analysis and critical thinking. Samples of more than one page will not be considered. All attachments should be properly labeled with applicant's name; generic filenames such as "FinalEssay.doc" will be deleted without being opened. No phone calls, please.

Each season the Publicity department seeks a part-time intern to assist with publicity campaigns. This includes media research, writing and editing press releases, and contributing to our social media platforms. Other duties include publicity mailings, filing, pitching, and other administrative tasks as required.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office a must. Experience in Cision, Photoshop, Indesign a plus.

Send cover letter and resume to Lauren Roberts at lroberts@overlookny.com. No phone calls, please.

The ideal candidate has previous office experience, is organized and detail oriented, and proficient with Adobe InDesign & Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat. Send cover letter and resume to Paul Sugarman at psugarman@overlookny.com.

This is a very hands-on internship that overlaps with the production, editorial, and sales departments. Applicants should be organized and very detail-oriented and should possess strong proofreading skills.
